Hello. We are Ted and Julie. Parents to six special and wonderful children:
Abby — 19
Jacob — 16
Esther — 9
Luciana — 5
Malakai — 2
God is taking our family on a journey beyond our wildest imaginations. It started in April of 2013 with plans for a short-term mission trip but took another leap that July…
We began exploring our options with EMM (Eastern Mennonite Missions), an organization in Lancaster County, PA that our church supports. Despite our short-term plans, they invited us to attend their training for long-term missionaries in June. With just a few weeks to prepare, we rearranged our schedules and headed off for a month of learning about missions and God’s work as well as forming some wonderful relationships with other families. Throughout our time there, we continued to seek direction for our family. It came the last day, in an entirely unexpected direction: we are heading for a long-term (5-10 years) in Guatemala to work among the K’ekchi people in business development, of which one of the projects is to improve the channels for importing their wonderful coffee to the United States, allowing them to be paid fair wages for their crop.
As we have continued to pursue this opportunity, it has truly been an exciting journey. In late September 2013 Ted, Julie, and Esther took a five-day exploratory trip to visit the area where we would be working. The trip served to strengthen our desire and excitement. We raised the needed funds for our first term headed to language school in Costa Rica in August 2014; then we went on to Guatemala in June of 2015.
We are now completing our time of service living in Guatemala, though we plan to maintain the connections we have made and continue finding ways to serve with the K’ekchi people we have come to love as family.
